50s Frill-kit

A cute kit for more advanced knitters.

2 circular (one for the frills) and DP needles US  2 or 3 (we used 3 mm which is inbetween)

Width shorts

Length tunic

Frill-shorts
Cast on 96 stitches using the main colour of the shorts.
Knit stockinette in the round.
After 0.6”, purl 1 round. Continue working in stockinette, and
measure the work from the round of purls.

Knit 5.1“ in stockinette. Place markers (PM) at the beginning of the round and again after 48 s to mark the sides. PM in the middle front and back too, after 24 and 72 s.
Make the back a bit longer than the front like this (if you don´t know how to make turns in a neat way, try looking it up on
youtube):
*Knit until you are 5 stitches past the PM in the middle back, turn.
Purl until you are 5 stitches past the PM in the middle back, turn*.

Repeat from * to * until you have turned 3 (4) times on each side. For every turn you will knit 5 s more past the PM (i.e. 10 s next time).

Knit two more rounds before making the frills.
Frills
Increase 1 stitch in every stitch by knitting into the front and the back loop of each stitch over the 40 (48) stitches in the back. Knit the rest of the round like usual.
Place the stitches knitted in the front loop on a spare circular needles, and leave them. Knit the other stitches like usual, and go on for 4 rounds in stockinette.

Then make the frill like this:
Start from the wrong side and purl one row, knit one row, purl one row.
Then increase 2 stitches in every stitch by knitting, purpling and knitting into every stitch before lifting it off the left needle.
Use the pattern colour and cast off on the next row. K2tog as if you were to purl (stick the needle into the first stitch on the needle), place the stitch back on to the left needle and do the same again.

Repeat the two paragraphs above until you have 3 frills.

Continue to work in stockinette while increasing 1 stitch on each side of the 2 stitches in the middle front and back on the next 4 rounds.
Cast off the 8 stitches in the middle front and back.

Make a rib, K1, P1, for 0.8” on each leg. Cast off.

Fold down the edge above the purled round. Sew it to the inside with an elastic band inside.

Sew the crouch.


Tunic
Cast on 61 s in  the main colour (MC) (the one you will use for the leaves)
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row.
* Slip 1 s, K1 wyib in pattern colour (PC) *
Repeat from * to * until 1 stitch remains, slip 1.
* Slip 1, K1 wyif in PC*
Repeat from * to * until 1 stitch remains, slip 1.

Use MC
Knit 1 row
Purl 1 row and increase 16 (18) evenly = 79 s.
Change to PC
Knit 1 row
Purl 2 rows
Knit 1 row

The leaf pattern starts here:
Row 1:
* P4 using PC, change to MC, YO, K1, YO*
Repeat from * to * until 4 s remains, P4.
NOTE: After the last YO, try to lock it in by placing the PC yarn over the MC yarn.
Make sure to stretch the yarn out between the leaves.

Row 2 and every even numbered row:
Knit the s in PC, purl the stitches in MC.

Row 3:
*Purl until the leaf starts. Change to MC, K1, YO, K1, YO, K1*
Repeat from * to * until the you´ve finished the last leaf, purl the remaining stitches in PC

Row 5:
*Purl until the leaf starts. Change to MC, K2, YO, K1, YO, K2*
Repeat from * to * until the you´ve finished the last leaf, purl the remaining stitches in PC

Row 7:
*Purl until the leaf starts. Change to MC, K3, YO, K1, YO, K3*
Repeat from * to * until the you´ve finished the last leaf, purl the remaining stitches in PC

Row 9, 11 and 13:
* Purl in PC until the leaf starts. Increase 1 stitch using PC. Slip 1, K1, lift the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, Knit until 2 stitches remain of the leaf, K2tog. Increase 1 stitch in PC.*
Repeat from * to * until the you´ve finished the last leaf, purl the remaining stitches in PC

Row 15:
Purl the stitches in PC. On the three remaining stitches of the leaves knit like this: Slip 1, K2tog, lift the slipped stitch over the K2tog.

Use PC only, and knit on the wrong side, knit on the right side over the next 5 rows.
Change to MC and knit in the round from here on. You should have 169 s.
K 25, cast off 35 (look at how the frills on the shorts were decreased), K 49, cast off 35, K 25.
On the next round you´ll cast on 2 stitches under each sleeve = 103 s.
Continue in stockinette.
Increase 1 stitch on each side of the 2 stitches under each arm every 0.8” 11 times in total.
When you´re done increasing knit every second round and purl every second round over the next 0.8”
Cast off and make a small loop in the back for the button.
