Another Cosy Basket-Cardigan
This stitch pattern is one of the prettiest there is. Not for beginners, but not too hard if you get the hang of it either:)
Sizes

Yarn
Pickles Merino Tweed, double stranded
200 (300) 400 (400) 500 g
Needles
Circular needles 32 “ and DP needles US 7 and 10
Gauge per 4 “
(pattern stitch, US 10) 20 s
Measurements, lying flat
Width: 10.6 (13) 15.6 (15.3) 16.1”
Length: 11.4 (14.6) 16.1 (17.2) 18.5”
The body piece
Knitted bottom-up with double strands.
Cast on 85 s LOOSELY on circular needles US 7.
Knit 8 rows of garter stitch.
Swap to US 10 needles and stockinette and increase 10 s evenly on the next row = 95 s.
Start the pattern stitch from the wrong side
Row 1
P2 *Pattern stitch, wrong side (from here on PWS) P the second s on the left needle, don't slip it off the needle. P the first stitch on the left needle. Slip both stitches off the needle*
Repeat from * to * until 1 s remains, P1.
Tip: Make sure not to knit too tightly! Give a lot of yarn while knitting the pattern stitch.
Row 2
K2 * Pattern stitch, right side (from here on PRS) K the second stitch on the left needle through the back loop, don´t lift the stitch off the needle. K the first stitch normally, slip both sticthes off the needle.* Repeat from * to * until 1 s remains, K1.
Repeat these 2 rows until the piece is 6.7 (9.4) 10.6 (11.4) 12.2”. Separate the work into front and back pieces, after a row from the wrong side.
Each of the front pieces should have 21 s, and the back piece 53 s.
Start knitting the first front piece from the right side. Continue knitting stitch pattern by repeating the 2 rows like before.
Cast off loosely when the piece is 11.4”.
Knit the back piece. The pattern needs to be adjusted to make it correct. Start from the right side and knit like this:
Row 1: K1, PRS until the end of the row.
Row 2: P1, PWS until the end of the row.
Repeat these 2 rows úntil the piece is 11.4”. Cast off loosely.
Knit the other front piece like the first one. Assemble the shoulders.
Sleeves
Pick up 47 s with DP needles US 10 around the sleeve hole.
Start knitting under the sleeve, back and forth.
Sleeve pattern 1
Knit row 1 and 2 like on the body piece.
Decrease after about 1.6” on a row from the right side like this:
Row 1:
K2tog. PRS until 1 s remains. K1.
Row 2:
K2tog. PWS until the end of the row.
Sleeve pattern 2
Knit row 1 and 2 like on the back piece.
Decrease after about 1.6” on a row from the right side like this:
K2tog, K1. PRS until 2 s remains. K2tog.
Repeat from Sleeve pattern 1 until you´ve decreased 4 times (Sleeve pattern 1 counts 1 and 1 time per sleeve pattern 2 counts 1). You should have 39 s left.
Change to DP needles US 7 when the sleeve is about 6.3”. Continue in garter stitch. Decrease 10 s evenly (K2tog) evenly on the first round.
Cast off loosely after 8 rows.Knit the other sleeve in the same way.
Front bands.
Pickl up 128 s along the front pieces and the neck line using circular needles US 7. Knit garter stitch back and forth.
Make button holes on the left side after about 0.4”:
K4, YO, K2tog, * K6, YO, K2tog*
Repeat from * to * until you have 4 button holes.
Knit the rest of the row.
Knit garter stitch for 2” from where you started. Knit another row of button holes like before.
Continue in garter stitch for another 2” before casting off loosely.
