Another plain vest

The Plain vest has been so popular, we though we´d make another one;) This is a super simple pattern for both boys and girls. For girls it can even be a tunic, if you choose to knit it a bit longer. It has a 70s´shape, and if you´d like it to have a bit more hold at the bottom, cast on 8 less stitches at the start, and increase 8 stitches during the first round of stockinette.

Circular needles US 9

Gauge per 4”
13 stitches

Cast on 94 stitches using 1 strand from each yarn (wool and cotton). The whole piece is knitted with 2 strands. Knit in the round.
*Knit 1 round, purl 1 round*.
Repeat from * to * 8 times in total.
Start knitting in stockinette.
Place marker (PM) in each side, with 47 in between.
Knit until the piece is 9.4”.

Continue in stockinette, but purl the 12 stitches in each side (6 on each side of the PM) every second round 3 times.
Cast off 4 stitches in each side, 2 stitches on each side of the PM = 43 stitches.
The front and back piece is knitted seperately for here on.

Front piece
Continue to work in stockinette, but always work in garter stitch over the 4 stitches at the beginning and end of the row.
Start working only in garter stich when the piece is 13.7”.
After 6 rows, cast off for the head:
Knit 13, cast off (loosely, so the head will fit) 17 stitches, knit 13.
Knit 12 rows on each piece.
(Make sure to finish with a row from the wrong side)

Back piece
Continue to work in stockinette, but always work in garter stitch over the 4 stitches at the beginning and end of the row.
Start working only in garter stich when the piece is 13.7”. Knit until the back piece is as long as the front piece.
(Make sure to finish with a row from the wrong side)

Use the kithener´s stitch to weave the stithes of the front and back piece together. Cast of the stitches left over in the middle back LOOSELY.

If you prefer to cast off all stitches and sew together, make sure to knit a couple of rows extra.
