Bring-it-on-baby blanket - Winter
Picture from Gravid
Winter babies need a wollen afghan in happy colours. We made one for little Olivia, and she sure was happy about it. The afghan is very stretchy, amking it easy to wrap around your baby. It will also make a great baby bed spread later on; a multi use afghan;)
Yarn
Single strand Pickles Cashmerino, Pickles Extra Fine Merino
or
double strands Pickles Merino Lace
We used both extra fine merino and lace, 9 colours in total. You need 250 g in total for the hole afghan.
Needles
Circular needles US 10
Using needles a few sizes larger than US 10, cast on 110 stitches. We use the larger needles to cast on and off to make sure it stays stretchy in the ends as well as in the middle. The blanket is knitted with larger needles than what the yarn requires, and that´s why it´s very important to remeber this.
Change to size 10 needles and knit 4 rows using the garter stitch. Then you´ll repeat the following four rows throughout the blanket.
Row 1: K2 together, K2 together, YO, K1, YO, K1, YO, KI, YO, K2 together, K2 together.
Row 2 - 4: Knit the garter stitch.
Repeat until the blanket is 35". Finish by knitting the garter stitch for four rows. On the fourth you´ll change needles to size 15. Cast off on the next row.

Herlige farger!
Brilliant! My next-door neighbor just had a lovely little girl...Thanks for this pattern!
This is a beautiful pattern, thank you so much for sharing! I just have one question- I have medium weight organic cotton yarn that I'd like to use for a summer baby. It requires a size 9 needle- what needle sizes do you recommend to get the same effect?
In row one do you begin the repeat with another k2 together, k2 together, yo, etc? The pattern is great!
Thank yoy.
Yes:)
Can you tell me how the merino wool washes? I don't want to burden the new mother with hand washing. Thanks.
We recommend hand wash or super gentle cycle if you have a modern washing machine :)
