Bring-it-on baby blanket

In the Nordic countries we tend to use wool a lot. Some use wool for their babies all year around. If you´re due with a summer baby, though, a soft, stretchy cotton baby blanket can´t go wrong. It´s perfect for wrapping the baby when its´newly born, and super as a bed spread later on. This is a very easy pattern, and even if you only know how to knit the garter stitch, it should suit you. If you´re more advanced it´s great for tv-knitting, or perhaps playground-knitting? Oh, and do you prefer wool, try knitting this with the Pickles Extra Fine Merino or the Pickles Cashmerino Silk

What you need
7 balls of either cotton / Pickles Extra Fine Merino / Pickles Cashmerino Silk (the yarn should require a needle size 6, US)
(You might just need five balls, but we wanted seven colours)
Large circular needles US 10
Large circular needles US 15, for casting on and off.

How we did it
Using the size 15 needles, cast on 110 stitches. We use the larger needles to cast on and off to make sure it stays stretchy in the ends as well as in the middle. The blanket is knitted with larger needles than what the yarn requires, and that´s why it´s very important to remeber this.

Change to size 10 needles and knit 4 rows using the garter stitch. Then you´ll repeat the following four rows throughout the blanket.

Row 1: K2 together, K2 toghether, YO, K1, YO, K1, YO, KI, YO, K2 together, K2 together.

Row 2 - 4: Knit the garter stitch.

Repeat until the blanket is 88 cm. Finish by knitting the garter stitch for four rows. On the fourth you´ll change needles to size 15. Cast off on the next row.

Assemble the loose ends and start waiting for the baby!

Bigger babies enjoyed the blanket too by the looks of it.
