We just started felting and we love it. Felting is a bit like drawing with wool. See how we made a toy for the stroller below.

We used strong colours, as babies tend to like that. We also made the eyes strong and big.

What you need
Felting needles, we just used a normal size
Felting mat
Roving

How we did it
See how we felted the dog step by step. The other animals are explained in a simpler manner.

The dog

1. Use 25-30 cm of wool. Tear the strip in two and lay them down in a cross. Make a ball and roll the wool between your hands to shape it.

2. Put the ball on the felting mat and start working the needle into the ball. Work from all angles, and turn the ball now and again. Continue until the ball is round, but still soft.

3. Make red triangles for the head. Shape the wool into triangle shapes, and work them with the needle just a little bit.

4. Put the triangles on the head and start working the edges, then the whole shape.

5. It should end up looking like this.

6. Create the eyes. Make tiny brown balls with your hands and work the needle again and again until the eyes sits a bit further into the head than the rest of the wool.

7. Now make the ears. Create four teardrop shapes, two in each colour. The red is supposed to be smaller than the sand coloured. Make one ear of one red and on sand coloured shape. Then make another one. Assemble them to the head with the needle.

8. Make the nose. Create a half-moon shape of white and a ball of green. Work the needle.

Your dog is done! If you think it´s uneven, try squeezing it between the palm of your hands and roll it. It usually helps.

The frog

Start making a green ball. Cover half of the ball with the sand colour and work the needle. Make small blue balls and create a dot pattern on the sand colour. Make the eyes separately, first working the green and the white, and then the brown eyeballs. Assemble the eyes to the head with the needle.

The cat

Make a blue ball. Put a sand coloured circle for the face and work the needle. Make the ears in blue and sand. Make the nose like above, using white and red. We also made a mouth using brown lines. The eyes were made in the end in white and brown. We also pulled two bits of string through the nose and tied a knot in each end of the nose.

The squirrel

Make a brown ball. Put a white heart shape onto the ball and work the needle. Then make two sand coloured teardrop shapes. Finish the eyes with the brown eyeballs. Make two ears in brown and pink and make the pink nose in the end. Put two pieces of string through the nose like described for the cat.

The cock

Make a sand coloured ball. Put on a triangular blue beak. Then make a red cockscomb. Create a white eye on each side of the cockscomb, and make the eyeballs.

The rabbit

Make a white ball. Work a sand coloured circle where the nose is going. Create a small brown nose and two lines as the mouth. Create two long ears in white and pink and assemble them to the head.
