Gauge
19 s= 4” Stockinette

Pattern
Cast on 243 s on US 4 needles. Make ribbing:
Row 1: K3, *P1, K3* until end of row.
Row 2: P3, * K1, P3* until end of row.
Repeat row 1 and 2 until you have 3" of ribbing. Change your needles to US 6 and continue in stockinette. M1 s as you knit the first round of stockinette. = 244 s. PM in each side. Continue until your piece measures 16.5". Bind off 8 s under each arm. (4 s before and 4 s after each marker) = 114 s for the back and 57 s on each of the front pieces. Put it aside and knit the arms:
Arms:
Cast on 48 s on US 4 DPN´s And knit ribbing in the round: K3, P1 until you have 3" of ribbing. Change your needles to US 6 and continue in stockinette. PM at the beginning of the round. M4 s as you knit the first round of stockinette. = 52 s.
Continue until your piece measures 5.5". You are now going to increase 2 s on every 2nd round. Repeat the following rounds until you have 122 s.
Round 1: K until you have 1 s left before your marker. M1, K2, M1. Knit the rest of the round.
Round 2: Knit.
Bind off 8 s under each arm. (4 s before and 4 s after each marker). = 114 s. Put all your pieces onto the same needle (US 4). PM at the beginning and end of each arm. Purl one row from the wrong side. Then repeat the following rows 10 times:
Row 1: K2tog, knit 1 s past the first marker, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before your next marker, K2tog. Repeat the decrease for the other arm. Knit until you have 2 s left on the needle, K2tog.
Row 2: Purl.
Then repeat the following rows 4 times:
Row 1: Knit 1 s past the first marker, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before your next marker, K2tog. Repeat the decrease for the other arm. Knit until end of row.
Row 2: Purl.
Then repeat the following rows until you have 2 s left before the first marker:
Row 1: Knit until you have 3 s left before the first marker, K2tog. K2, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before the second marker, K2tog. K2, K2tog. Repeat the decrease for the other arm.
Row 2: Purl.
Put the remaining stitches on a thread or extra needle if you have one. Pick up stitches up along the front. Pick up about 4.5 s pr inch. When you reach the neck, knit the stitches you had on to the same needle before you pick up the same number of s down the other side. Count your stitches. You want a multiple of 4, + 3 s. Increase or decrease as you knit the first row of K3, P1 ribbing.
We made a narrow front band (0.7”) wich makes the edge kind of roll in while the cardigan is open. If you want a sturdy edge, make it really wide (4”), fold and sew it in.
If you want button holes, distribute them evenly along the edge up until the neck opening decrease starts. Make them in a purl stitch like this: K3, P1, K3 and so on until you reach the point where you want your button hole. (Right before a purl stitch). YO, K2tog, K2. Continue the ribbing.

I'm interested in purchasing the downloadable pattern for the Cool Cardigan, but the website is adding shipping charges. Is there a way to remedy this? Apologies for leaving this question here, but I could not locate an email link. Thanks!
Hi Jillian, there was an error in the shop, go to the downloadable patterns section (left menu) and it should work now :) However, the downloadable patterns are more expensive as we like to give our yarn customers cheap patterns. ($4 for the downloadable ones after tax is deducted:)
Bonjour
c'est vraiment magnifique le travail que vous réalisez
j'aime beaucoup
bisous
hi, i'd really like to make this cardigan - im good at knitting but useless at the short hand for all the stiches - is there any way you could tell me what the achronyms stand for?
K = knit
M1 = make one stitch
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
S = stitch
YO = yarn over
Hope that helps :)
i soo wanted to make this since along ago! but i didnt rly get the definitions; so thank you so much sophie!!
oops, i mean pickles X)
Heelo, i was thinking of starting another project, but i cant seem to understand what to do. How does 243 s fit on one US 4 needle?!??? and how do you make the whole for the arms?? its all so confusing! please give me a word of advice! >.<
ps. What does PM stand for? and thank you~
Icey, they fit fine, that of course depends on the lenght of your needles. (circular) :)
You knit the arms separately and then join everything in a classic raglan decrease. PM means Place Marker.
Good luck with your project!
Thank you soo soo much!~ ill try and do 243 >.<

Hi !
Automn is coming and I would like to make this nice vest !
But before, I have a small question, I just want to know wich size is the one on the picture ! Because I would like it not too tight, and I'm afraid that the small one won't make this effect ...
Thank you ! And I really love your work :)
Turion, the picture shows a size S.
:) Thanks
Hello, I've recently purchased the pattern and I am really excited to get started but it doesn't say when to switch the colours. How many rows should I make before I should switch?
Thanks
what is the best size for me if my shoulder is 17-18 inches?
Jehan, we use yarnstandards.com for sizing, please check your measurements there. The size on the model is a size S btw ;)
On the pattern it reads to put a stitch marker on each side but how many stitches are before the stitch marker?
Half the stiches are for the front, half for the back;)
Hey I just started the sweater and got a goot way into the ribbing before i realized something was off so i've got a few questions about your pattern.
1. It says size xxl is that really the size or have i misread that
2. the gauge is 19stiches = 4 inches correct?
3. If that gauge is correct then what is the correct needle size because unless you are using incredibly bulky yarn US 4 and 6 cannot be right.
Now I am fairly new to knitting but I have never had this much trouble please help me!
Hi, the information is correct ;) We used the yarn stated in the pattern.
Hej!
I have the same question as Brigitte, but I couldn't find the answer... After how many rows (or cm or in) do you change colours?
Thank's for your help!
Hi, we knitted 20 rows of the first grey, then 12 rows of each colour
HI I recently bought this pattern and slightly confused on how to PM--is it on the edge of the knitting like the first and last stitch of each row? or on each side of my added stitch? Because it says bind off 8 s (4 on each side of the markers) well that would be impossible if I used my made stitch. SO pretty much I am asking were on my row I am suppose to place my markers for the arms. Thank you so much
