Cool Winter Cardigan

We´ve finally knitted a Winter version of the Cool Cardigan. We needed to adjust the needles and the pattern a bit, and think the Abuelita 3-ply/Pickles Silk Mohair combo looks very elegant! Make sure you check your gauge before t´knitting this, as the 3-ply is a pretty thin yarn, and shouldn´t be knitted any looser than this.

XS (S) M (L) XL
M for free below. The other sizes can be bought here.

Needles
DP and circular needles US 6 and 7

Gauge for 4”
19 stitches

Body piece
Cast on 203 s on US 6 needles using 1 strand of Abuelita 3 ply. Make ribbing:
Row 1:
K3, *P1, K3* until end of row.

Row 2:
P3, * K1, P3* until end of row.

Repeat row 1 and 2 until you have 3 inches of ribbing. Change your needles to US 7 and continue in stockinette. M1 s as you knit the first round of stockinette = 204 s. PM on each side.
Knit 2 rows.
Start repeating the following stripe-pattern:
16 rows 1 strand Abuelita 3-ply and 1 strand Pickles SIlk Mohair
8 rows 1 strand Abuelita 3-ply

Continue until your piece measures 15.5 (16) 16 (16.5) 16.5 inches. Bind off 8 s under each arm. (4 s before and 4 s after each marker) = 76 (84) 94 (104) 114 s for the back and 38 (42) 47 (52) 57 s on each of the front pieces) Put it aside and knit the sleeves.

Sleeves
Cast on 48 s on US 6 DPN ́s and knit ribbing in the round: K3, P1 until you have 3 inches of ribbing. Change your needles to US 7 and continue in stockinette. PM at the beginning of the round. M4 s as you knit the first round of stockinette = 48 s.
K2 rounds before starting the stripe-pattern.
Continue until your piece measures 5.5 inches.
You are now going to increase 2 s (1 on each side of the PM) on every 3rd round 4 times, and then 2 s on every second round until you have 102 s. Continue knitting until you are on the same round in the stripe pattern as you were when you left the body piece.
Bind off 8 s under each arm. (4 s before and 4 s after each marker) = 94 s. Knit another sleeve.

Put all your pieces onto the same needle (US 7). PM at the beginning and end of each sleeve. Purl one row from the wrong side. Then repeat the following rows 9 times:
Row 1:
K2tog, knit 1 s past the first marker, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before your next marker, K2tog.
Repeat the decrease for the other sleeve. Knit until you have 2 s left on the needle, K2tog.

Row 2:

Purl.

Then repeat the following rows 3times:
Row 1:
Knit 1 s past the first marker, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before your next marker, K2tog. Repeat the decrease for the other sleeve. Knit until end of row.

Row 2:

Purl.

Then repeat the following rows until you have 2 s left before the first marker:
Row 1:
Knit until you have 3 s left before the first marker, K2tog. K2, K2tog. Knit until you have 3 s left before the second marker, K2tog. K2, K2tog. Repeat the decrease for the other sleeve.

Row 2:
Purl.

Put the remaining stitches on a thread or some extra needles if you have some. Pick up stitches along the front. Pick up about 4.5 s pr inch. When you reach the neck, knit the stitches onto the same needle. Then pick up the same number of s down the other side. Count your stitches. You want a multiple of 4, + 3 s. Increase or decrease as you knit the first row of K3, P1 ribbing.
We knitted the front bands about 1,4” before making button holes. Distribute them evenly along the edge up until the neck opening decrease starts. Make them in a purl stitch like this: K3, P1, K3 and so on until you reach the point where you want your button hole. (Right before a purl stitch). YO, K2tog, K2. Continue the ribbing.
