Length
14.2 (17) 19.3 (21.2) 23.2 (25.2) 27.1 (28.7)“
The length is the same from the top down, as from the top and to the end of the sleeve. Make sure to measure that it´ll fit your length before knitting;)
Cast on 256 stitches on long circular needles US 10.
*Knit 1 round, purl 1 round*
Repeat from * to * 4 times in total.
Place markers (PM), 4 in total, at the beginning of the round (this is the 1st PM, and is at the back left side of the cape), and with 64 stitches inbetween.
Start knitting in stockinette. Decrease like this on the next round:
K2, K2tog
* Knit until you´re 4 stitches away from the next PM, SSK, K4, K2tog*
Repeat from * to * until you´re 4 stitches away from the PM at the beginning of the round, SSK, K2.
Continue to decrease every 0.8-1” (we knitted 3 rounds between each round of decreasing) 17 times in total.
AT THE SAME TIME make button holes after about 3” like this:
Knit until you´re 4 stitches away from the 2nd PM, K2tog, YO. Knit until you´re 2 stitches past the 3rd PM. YO, K2tog.
Change colours after about 9.5”.
Decrease the same way every 0.6” (2 rounds in between) 5 times in total and then every 0.4” (1 round in between) 2 times in total.
You´ll now have 64 stitches.
Change colour.
*Knit 1 round, purl 1 round*
Repeat from * to * 4 times in total.
On the next round, cast off all stitches between the second and thrid PM. Knit the rest of the round. Cut the yarn and start knitting the hood back and forth in garter stich.
On the first row, increase 16 stitches evenly.
When the hood is 11”, and you´ve just finished a row from the wrong side, fold the hood and sew it together with the kitchener´s stitch.
Sew buttons to the inside of the cape.

Great Poncho! Thanks for sharing. few questions: its knitted in the round, no? i see the first rows are knitted in gartnerstitch, but i see in the description i have to knit and purl a round, thats the stockinette, right? The the cape has to be knitted in stockinette as well? Maybe i understood wrong, but i appreciate your help. Last question: what does ssk mean? thanks!
ah, also... the pattern for 8 years is in between parenthesis, what does that mean?
