Ingrid´s Diva-kit

After having knitted the Winter Turban and the Mittens for Miss, we just couldn´t resist making a kit for the younger misses too...

Needles
DP needle US 9
Stitchmarkers

Gauge per 4"

17 stitches stockinette

MITTEN
TIP!
You can knit the brioche stitch in different ways. We do it this way, as it is easier on the shoulders. If you can´t figure it out, try looking up "brioche stitch" on youtube.com.

Cuff
Cast on 23 (25) stitches. Knit one row. Knit in brioche back and forth:

Row 1:
Slip 1. * Knit one into the row below, knit one*
Repeat from * to * throughout the row.

Row 2:
Slip one.
* Knit one, knit one into the row below.*
Repeat from * to * until two stitches remain. Knit 2.

Repeat the two rows until your cuff is about 2 (2.4)"

The mitten
Start knitting the garter stitch in the round.
Make sure you always have the same amount of stitches on both sides of the mitten. Needles 1 and 2 are one side, and needles 3 and 4 are the other.

On the first round K2tog 5 times throughout the round.

Knit 3 (4) rounds. Stop 1 stitch before reaching the end of needle 4.

TIP: See tutorial for M1r and M1l here

Increase 1 (Make 1 right, M1r), k2, increase 1 (Make i left ,M1l), knit until 1 stitch remains on the second needle, M1r, K2, M1l, knit the rest of the round.

Knit until your piece is about 2 (2.4)" from where you started knitting in the round.

Increase for thumb
TIP: See tutorial for this here
Øk til tommel
Stop 1 stitch before reaching the end of needle 4.

Put a stitch marker on your right needle.
M1r, K2, M1l.
Put a stitch marker on your left needle.

Increase 2 (3) more times just after the first stitch marker, and just before the other. Increase every second round 1 (2) times, and on every round 1 time.

Put the 8 (10) stitches on a thread.

Keep on knitting the mitten, and cast on 2 extra stitches below the thumb (between needle 1 and 4).
You will now have 32 (36) stitches.
Knit in the round until the piece is 3.5 (4.3)" from where you started knitting in the round. Now start decreasing. Decrease every third round, three times in total like this:
Knit until 2 stitches remain on needle 4, SSK, K2tog, knit until 2 stitches remain on needle 2, SSK, K2tog, knit the rest of the round.
Now decrease in the same way on every second round 1 (2) times.
Cut the yarn and put the thread through the reamining stitches. Assemble.

Thumb
Put the stitches for the thumb back on the needles, and cast on two ore stitches under the thumb.
Knit in the round until the thumb is 1.4 (1.8)".
Cut the yarn and put the thread through the reamining stitches.

Assemble the cuff as neatly as you can. Knit another mitten, and make sure to place the thumb on the other side;)

TURBAN
This project is pretty easy as long as you get the hold of the brioche stitch. You make a scarf and shape it into a turban.

Cast on 19 (23) stitches.
Knit one row.
Start the brioche stitch.

Row 1:
Slip 1. * Knit one into the row below, knit one*
Repeat from * to * throughout the row.

Row 2:
Slip one.
* Knit one, knit one into the row below.*
Repeat from * to * until two stitches remain. Knit 2.

Repeat the two rows until your scarf is about 24 (27)". It´s a good idea to measure it on the head of the person you´re making ity for, as head sizes vary a lot.

Shape the turban like  a pyramide byoverlapping the ends of the scarf, see the photo below. In the back you´ll have to pull up the scarf to make it meet the top of the pyramide, but as the brioche makes a very stretchy fabric, this is no problem. Assemble from the wrong side as neatly as you can.

SLIP THROUGH SCARF
Cast on 15 (17) stitches.

Knit 2.

When the scarf is 3.5", you´ll amke the first slip through hole. Put every second stitch on another DP needle. You´ll have 8 (9) stitches on needle 1 and 7 (8) stitches on needle 2. Increase 1 stitch at the end of needle 2, On the needle where you have the stitches that was meant to be knitted in the row below on the next row, you should knit the first row in the row below.
Knit each needle in stockinette for about 2.4".
On the last row of stockinette one neelde 2, knit the two last stitches together.

Place the stitches back on to the same needle again.
Knit broiche for another 15 (15.7)".
Make another slip through hole just like before.

Knit brioche for 3.5".
Knit 1 row.
Cast off.
Assemble the sides of one of the slip through holes.
