FINGER MITTENS

Cast on 24 stitches on double pointed needles US 4. Use one thread in a pattern colour.
Knit rib, K 1, P 1 until the piece is 3.1”.
Start knitting stockinette and increase 4 stitches on the first round.
Knit 0.7 ”. Distribute the stitches onto two needles, front and back hand.

Cut the working yarn and make a hole for the thumb by knitting the 4 first stitches on needle 1 in a contrasting colour. You will later on pick up the stitches on each side of the contrasting yarn, and pull the yarn out.

On the other mitt (2) you do this on the 4 last stitches on needle 1.

Go back to knitting in the original colour again, and keep on knitting until the piece measures 1.5 “ measured from where you started stockinette. Start with mitt 1 and knit the fingers like this:

Index finger: Knit the 3 first s on needle 1. Make a stitch by making a backward loop on the needle. Knit the last 4 s on needle 2. (Place all the other stitches on spare needles) Distribute the stitches onto two needles, front and back. Knit in the round until the finger measures 1.3 “. Decrease on the next round by knitting the first 2 stitches on every needle together and SSK the last 2 s on every needle. Thread the yarn through the remaining stitches, pull and sew.

Middle finger: Knit the 3 next s on needle 1, make a stitch in the same manner. Knit the 3 s from needle 2, make a stitch. Knit in the round until the middle finger is a little longer than the index finger. Decrease and finish in the same manner.

Ring finger: Knit the 3 next s on needle 1, make a stitch in the same manner. Knit the 3 s from needle 2, make a stitch. Knit in the round until the middle finger is as long as the index finger. Decrease and finish in the same manner.

Pinky: Knit the remaining stitches, make 2 s in the gap towards the ring finger and knit until the finger is 1 “ long. Decrease and finish in the same manner.

On mitt nr 2 follow the pattern for mitt 1 but remember that the index will be the pinky and so on, so do opposite on the lengths.

Thumb
Pick up the stitches on each side of the contrasting yarn. Loosen the yarn and remove it.
Pick up one stitch on both sides (2 stitches in total).

Knit 1 ”.  Knit using 2 needles from here on in. Make sure there are as many stitches on needle 1 as on needle 2.

Knit the first two stitches on each needle together, ssk the last two stitches on each needle 1 times in total. Pull a thread through the remaining stitches and assemble the ends.
