Midsummer Baby Blanket with Tiny Hat

This pattern might look more complicated than it really is. It´s just knit stitches and slip stitches all the way. It is very effectful, and fun and easy as a Summer project. Also, it´s soft and lofty and just perfect to welcome a Summer newborn to the world. A cute hat goes with the blanket.
Yarn
Pickles Thin Organic Cotton
150 g in main colour
50 g of 3 different pattern colours

Needles
Blanket: 32" or 40" circular needles 7 mm
Hat: DP needles US 5

Gauge per 4"
Blanket 10-11 s
Hat about 18 sBlanket
Cast on 69 s on circular needles 7 mm.
Knit garter stitch in the main colour back and forth over the next 6 rows.

Start repeating these rows:
(When slipping we always refer to slipping as if you were to purl the stitch)

Row 1:
*Slip 1, K1 in pattern colour*
Repeat from * to * until 1 s remains, slip 1.

Row 2:
*Slip 1 with yarn in front (very important), K1 in pattern colour*
Repeat from * to * until 1 s remains, slip 1.

Rows 3 and 4:
Knit garter stitch in main colour

Row 5:
K1 in pattern colour, *Slip 1, K1 in pattern colour*
Repeat from * to *

Row 6:
*K1 in pattern colour, slip 1 with yarn in front*
Repeat from * to * until 1 s remains, K1

Rows 7 and 8:
Knit garter stitch in main colour

Repeat these 8 rows. Change colours where you want. We changed colours when the first skein of main colour was knitted up. We got about 17 stripes in each colour. Finish off iwth 6 rows of garter stitch in main colour.
Hat
Cast on 48 s on DP needles US 5.
Knit stockinette in the round and change colours every 1.6".

Start decreasing when the hat is about 4.3".
Round 1:
*K6, K2tog*
Repeat from * to *
Round 2:
Knit

Repeat these two rounds, but substract 1 s in between the K2tog per round of decreasement, ie. K5, K2tog next time.
After you´ve knitted a round of decreasements with 1 s between the K2tog, change to the last colour and K2tog for an entire round.
On the next round K2tog until you´re left with 4 stitches.

Make an i-cord of these stitches by knitting 4 s, slip all s from the left side to the right side of the right needle. Bring the yarn in back, and knit 4 s from the same direction again. Repeat until you can make a small loop and assemble to the hat.
