C6F: Place 3 s on a cable needle in front of the work. Knit 3 s. Knit the 3 s from the cable needle.
Cast on 178 s on circular needle US 6. Work ribbing, K1, P1 for 3”. Change to US 7 needles and purl one round while increasing 14 s evenly around the round = 192 s.
Place markers (MM) at the beginning of the round and after 96 s to mark the sides of the sweater. Then work the following rounds:
Round 1-9: K3s, *P2s, K6s*. Repeat between * and * until 5 s is left on the round. P2s, K3s.
Round 10: K3s. * P2s, C6F, P2s, K6s.* Repeat between * and * until 13 s is left on the round. P2s, C6F. P2s, K3s.
Round 11-20: K3s, *P2s, K6s*. Repeat between * and * until 5 s is left on the round. P2s, K3s.
Continue these rounds until the piece measures about 18”. Bind off 6 s under each arm (3 s on each side of the MM) = 180 s.
Cast on 36 s on US 6 double pointed needles. Work ribbing in the round, K1, P1 for 3”. Change to US 7 needles and purl one round while increasing 8 s evenly on the round = 44 s. Place a marker (MM) at the beginning of the round to mark under the arm, and continue purling in the round. Increase 1 s on each side of the marker every 1.5”, 12 times all together. Work until the sleeve measures about 19.25”.
You now have 68 s. Bind off 6 s under each arm = 62 s.
Line up all the parts on to the same needle, US 6.5. The round starts behind the left sleeve. You now have 304 s.
Place a marker (MM) in the first and the last s on each sleeve. Note: Place the marker in the actual stitch, NOT on the needle between two s. Read the next chaper before continuing the work.
Work about 2.5 “ without any decreasing. Continue in the wide ribbing/cable pattern on the body and purl on the sleeves, but knit the marked s. End with an even (odd) even (odd) even (odd) numbered round in the cabel pattern rounds. This is to make the cable pattern right when starting to work back and forth later. You then will need to work opposite on the wrong side rows.
Decrease - sleeves only
Round 1: Start on the marked s. *Slip the marked s and 1 more s knitwise and do a SSK. Knit until 1 s is left before the next marked s. K2tog*. Repeat for the other side. The marked stitches will form a chain running up along the decrease edge.
Do decrease - sleeves only on each round 10 times. You now have 264 s.
Move the round to start in the front in the following manner: Slip all the sleeve s and 35 s from the body, and start working on the 36 s. Work ribbing, K1, P1 over 20 s to make the collar. Knit around while decreasing on the sleeves as before. Make 20 new s on the end of the row for overlapping collar. On the next row work these s in ribbing also, P1, K1 (from the wrong side). Continue working back and forth, cable pattern rounds on the body, purl on the sleeves and ribbing on the collar.
Continue decreasing as before on the right side, but on the wrong side work the following row:
*Work until the first marked s. P2tog. Work until 1 s is left before next marked s. Slip 2 s purlwise, put them back on the left needle, but in the opposite direction (turn the right needle towards the right and insert the left needle into the s from under the s. P the 2 s tog*. Repeat for the other side.
Decrease on the sleeves until you have 12 s left on each sleeve. Work 4 rows with no decreases. Start decreasing on the body.
Decrease - body
Row 1: *Work until 1 s is left before the marked s. K2tog. Work until the next marked s. SSK*. Repeat for the other side.
Row 2: *Work until 1 s is left before the marked s. Slip 2 s purlwise, turn and Ptog. Work until next marked s. P2tog.
Decrease on each row until you have lost all the cable pattern stitches on the front pieces and only have ribbing s left. You now have 84 s left on the needle.
The marked s is the last of the collar s, so that the last s towards the neck on each side is a knit s. You have 21 s for collar on each side.
Place a marker (MM) in the middle of all the s. If you are starting now from the wrong side, start working row 3 and 4, if you are starting from the right side, start working row 1 and 2.
Row 1 from the right side: Work ribbing until 1 s is left on the collar, SSK.
Row 2: Work ribbing back.
Row 3 from the wrong side: Work ribbing until 1 s is left on the collar, P2tog.
Row 4: Work ribbing back.
Repeat row 1 and 2 /3 and 4 until you are in the middle back. Repeat for the other side. Use kitchener s to assemble the back. Weave in all ends and sew the overlapping collar to the inside. Rinse and strech into shape.
