This bubble-pattern vest is not that advanced, but if you haven´t knitted before, this would not be a project to start with. We have used a combination of wool/cashmere and organic cotton. This creates a nice contrast, and it makes it just as warm as a Spring-vest should be.
The vest is made for Ola, who is slighly older than Nils, who is modelling. The vest is a bit large on him. It is a size 3-4 y.
1-2 (3-4) 5-6 (7-8) years.

Circular and PD needles US 4
Gauge per 4"
Cast on 120 stitches on US 4 circular needles using colour 1. Knit in the round.
Knit a rib, K1, P1 for 0.8”.
Knit the next round while increasing 12 stitches evenly = 132 stitches.
Start the first bubble:
Knit two rounds.
On the next round you´ll make the first bubble, however, this bubble is just halv a bubble, made with three rounds instead of five, as it comes out of the rib
Knit like this:
* K3, knit into the the stitch of the first round, two rows below (See picture bottom). Tighten to create a bubble, and make sure to loosen the stitches in between the bottom row and the top row. We recommend just pulling the work slightly.* Repeat from * to * throughout the round.
Bubble, colour 2:
Use colour 2. Knit 4 rounds. Knit a round of bubbles like this:
* K 1, knit into the the stitch of the first round (four rows below) , K 2*
Repeat from * to * throughout the round.
Bubble, colour 1
Use colour 1. Knit 4 rounds. Knit a round of bubbles like this:
* K 3, knit into the the stitch of the first round (four rows below) *
Repeat from * to * throughout the round.
Repeat from bubble. colour 2 until the piece is about 11” . You should be on the second round of a bubble. Cast off for arms and neck. Start 2 stitches before finishing the previous round.
Cast off 4 stitches for the first arm, K 28, cast off 3 for neck, K 28, cast off 4 for the other arm, K 65.
Turn and continue the bubble pattern. Remember that you´ll have to purl on the wrogn side. You´ll also have to make the bubbles by purling for one of the colours (See pictures below).
On every row of knit stitches, knit the first two and the last two stitches together 4 times in total. Then do the same on every second row of knit stitches 2 times in total.
Continue until the back piece is 15.7”. You should have just finished thge last row of the bubble pattern in either colour 1 or 2. Knit in stockinette over the next two rows. Leave the stitches on the needle.
Start knitting the front piece. Knit back and forth in the bubble pattern. Decrease the arm hole by knitting two stitches together on every row of knit stitches 4 times in total. Then do the same on every second row of knit stitches 2 times in total. AT THE SAME TIME K2tog for the neck opening at every second row of knit stitches.
Finish the front piece like the back piece, by knitting two rows in stockinette. Leave the stitches on the needle, or on a thread.
Knit the other front piece in the same way.
Assemble the front and the back pieces using the kitcheres stitch to create beautiful seamless shoulders. If you find it too hard, cast off the front and the back pieces and assemble like normal.
If you have used the kitchener´s stitch, leve the stitches in the nech on the needle, and pick up stitches along the sides of the neck hole. You should have 76 stitches in total. (If you casted off all the stitches, pick up the stitches along the back side of the neck too)
Knit a rib, K1, P1. Put a stitch marker at the middle stitch in the front. Knit one round of rib. On the next round and on every round from here on in, you will decrease to make the V-neck shape. When you have one stitch left before you reach the middle stitch, slip these two stitches as if you were to knit them. Knit the next stitch. Pull the two slipped stitches over the knitted stitch.
Cast off when the rib is 0.8”. Make sure the neck hole is big enough for a head. Do not cast off too tight.
Pick up 48 stitches around the arm hole and knit a rib, K1, P 1 until it is 0.8”. Cast off.
