Spin-a-round neckwarmer
It really is a neckwarmer, but knit with so many stitches that it becomes a long scarf with no ends. The stitch patten is of Italian origin.
Materials:
Abuelita worsted, 200 g. We used the colour Marzipan pig
Pickles Silk Mohair, 50 g. We used the colour Flamingo
US 19 circular needles.
Pattern:
Cast on 154 stitches on US 19 circular needles with one strand from each of the two yarns. Place marker at the beinning of the round.
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: *YO, K1* until the end of the round
Round 3: Drop all YO´s off the needle, Knit the regular stitches.
Round 4: *Knit the 4. stitch on the left needle, then the 3. Then knit the 1. stitch and slip it off the needle. Knit the 2. stitch and slip all 3 stitches off the needle.* until the end of the round.
Round 5: Knit
Round 6: *YO, K1* until the end of the round
Round 7: Drop all YO´s off the needle, Knit the regular stitches.
Round 8: Tha start on this row is a little tricky, since you want to displace the pattern two stitches. Place the last two stitches from the previous round on a cable needle (or your pinky). TThen knit the 2. stitch on the left needle, then the 1. Leave both stitches on the needle and place the two from your cable needle on there. Knit the first and let go, K the second and slip all 3 stitches off the needle. Continue as in round 4.
Repeat these 8 rounds until you are almost out of yarn. Cast off after a round 4 or 8. K while casting off.

Wow! Love the look of this. Great texture and it looks cozy too!
I'm a little confused about the knit the 4, then knit 3 then 1...is this a technique that I am not familiar with or a short form??? I love love love this neckwarmer and would love to make it but I can't figure it out:( thanks for your help! the patterns you guys have on your site are wonderful!
Hey - I posted a question earlier today and it's not here now...I'm not sure if I did it wrong so I'll try again. I'm confused about the instructions in round 4 - knit the 4 then the 3 then the 1...what is this referring to?? I love this neckwarmer but I'm not sure about the instructions??? anyway, if you can help that would be great:) I love the patterns on this site!
now it showed up! haha, oh well...you can erase it if you want:)
Hi susan, usually you knit the first stitch on the left needle first.
In this pattern you want to count four stitches into the left needle and knit that fourth stitch first. And so on with the rest of the instructions.
Did that help??
thanks! that definitely helps some...now I'm just confused how you can knit a stitch and then slip it off the needle such as when you say - "Then knit the 1. stitch and slip it off the needle" Do I just knit the 1st stitch and move it to the right needle like a usual knit stitch??
Yes! It means you let it go off the left needle.
Happy knitting!
i am about to start knitting this neckwarmer after securing size 19 needles -- not an easy task. Any way, my question is with Row 8 -- it says you are going to displace the pattern 2 stitches -- it tells you what to do, but it doesn't say anything about the round marker -- do you move it or leave it where it is?
p.s. i love it and am very excited to begin -- i love all your patterns!
ok, i just finished. i love it and can't wait to wear it tomorrow. i did shift the marker each round eight -- it didn't mess anything up and i'm very pleased with the result. thank you for the pattern!
I'm trying to locate the Abuelita worsted in Marzipan Pig color and can't seem to find it, any ideas?
Hi, I didn't understand: what is with the 2 remaining stitches in row 4. When I cast on 154 sts then in row 4 are 2 sts remaining, aren't they? 154 is indivisible with 4??? Could you help me?
And the 2. question: How long is the whole neckwarmer. I use an other yarn and I have to made a gauge.
Sorry for my english and thanks for help!
Hi! I saw a post earlier about this, but i am looking for a little more clarification.
In row 4 when it says "Knit the 4. stitch on the left needle, then the 3."...are these stitches actually moving from left needle to right needle?
Or do they stay on the left needle until the very end where it says "Knit the 2. stitch and slip all 3 stitches off the needle."
And are these 3 stitches referring to stitch 4,3,2? (assuming that stitch 1 has already been moved to the right needle?)
Either way i am just getting a big knot... :(
Any tips will be helpful. I have some lovely yarn waiting to be turned into this beautiful neckwarmer :)
Hi Kelly, they stay on the needle until after you knit stitch 2. And yes the 3 stitches are 4, 3 and 2. Try knitting a little more and see if the knot looses up on the next row, it often do :)
