Knitted bottom-up. Cast on 56 s in pattern colour in US 2 1/2. Place marker (PM) at the beginning of the round.
Knit 10 rounds in stockinette.
Swap to US 5 and main colour. Continue in stockinette until the leg is about 8.6” from the start. Put the piece aside.
Knit another leg in the same way. But on the last round knit all the stritches onto a circular needle (start by the marker), make 6 new s by making backward loops at the end of the round. Knit the other leg onto the same needles (start by the marker), and make 6 new s after this leg in the same way.
The 6 s marks the middle of the front and the back piece. PM on each side the 6 s = 124 s.
PM in each side too, 28 s after the last of the last marker of the 6 s on each side.
Decrease on every second round on the outside of the 6 s on the front and back piece like this:
When 2 s remain before the first marker, SSK, K6, K2tog. Repeat on the other side.
Repeat this decrease round a total of 33 times = 112 s. You can now remove the markes in the front and the back.
Continue in stockinette until the piece is 18.1”.
You will now start decreasing in the sides to shape the pants. On the next round and every 1.2”, you’ll knit like this:
When 3 s remain before the marker in the side, SSK, K2, K2tog. Repeat on the other side.
Decrease like this a total of 3 times = 100 s.
You will now part the piece into front and back pieces, and knit each seperately.
Start knitting the front piece.
The front piece starts 6 (6) 8 (8) 8 s after the marker in one side and ends 8 s before the marker in the other side = 34 s.
Knit the front piece back and forth in garter stitch (slip the last s with yarn in front and knit the first stitch through the back loop for nice edges).
Make button holes after about 0.6” , on a row from the right side:
K 5, K2tog, YO, kntil until 7 s remain, YO, K2tog, knit the rest of the row.
Repeat this to make another set of button holes wen the piece is 4.3”.
Knit the next 2 rows from the right side like this:
K2, K2tog, knit until 4 s remain, K2tog, K2.
Cast off after a row from the wrong side.
Cast on 8 s before starting on the back piece.
Knit one rwo and cast on 8 s here too (backward loops).
The 8 edge stitches in each side should ALWAYS be knitted in garter stitch.
The 8 s on each side of the markers in each side should ALWAYS be knitted in stockinette. The remaining s (in the back) shoul ALWAYS be knitted in garter stitch.
Cast off all stitches except for the garter stitches in the back when the piece is about 1.2”. You can cast off quite tightly to shape the waist if you want.
Continue in garter stitch for antoher 2”. Knit the last row from the wrong side.
PM at the end of the row you just finished (marker 1). Cast on 34 new s (not too tight) by making backward loops. These new s will become a strap.
Turn, and start knitting Decrease, under:
Knit until 2 s remain before the marker, SSK, K2tog just after the marker.
Knit the rest fo the row, PM (marker 2), and cast on 34new s her too.
Turn, and knit like decribed under Decrease above to decrease at marker 2. DO NOT decrease at marker 1.
Change colours and alternate between pattern colour and main colour (2 rows each colour).
Turn, and knit like decribed under Decrease above to decrease at marker 1. DO NOT decrease at marker 2.
Repeat the two last rows until the straps are about 2.7”, and you’ve just completed a row from the wrong side in main colour. Cast off with the same tenstion as you casted on the new s.
Attach buttons. Sew the lower, inner part of the back piece to the inside of the front piece. Sew the crouch.
