Sunny cardigan

This jacket is knitted in a mix of wool and cotton, which makes it very cool and warming at the same time. It immideately became the new favourite jacket! The model has no buttons, and is quite fitted around the hips, which makes it really nice with skirts and dresses. We have made two sizes, the larger one has two extra stripes and is wider. The one one the picture is the smaller size.
The model is knitted from the bottom up. You separate the work when you start knitting the sleeves, and use the kitchener´s stitch to join the shoulders. Apart from that it is easy to knit and almost assembly free.

100 g Abuelita 3-ply Merino

Needles
Long circular neeldes and DP needles US 7

Gauge
4"= 18 stitches
Cotton: about 16 rows
3 ply: about 30 rows

NOTE: The gauge is the same in terms of stitches for the different tyoes of yarn, however, you need to knit twice as many rows of 3-ply to get the same height as the cotton. We are therefore reffering to number of rows instead of inches in this pattern. Please check your gauge.
Cotton stripe= 6 rows, 3-ply stripe= 12 rows.

Cast on 106 stitches of Pickles Organic Cotton, thin using circular needles US 7.
Knit a rib, K1, P1 for 1.2". Start knitting in stockinette (from the right side),while increasing 10 stitches evenly on the first row = 116 stitches

* Use the cotton to knit 6 rows in stockinette in total.
 Change to the Abuelita 3-ply. Knit 12 row. Change back to the cotton*

Repeat from * to * until you have 3 stripes of cotton and 3 stripes of 3-ply.

Continue in the same way, but separate thw work, and start increasing for sleeves.
Each of the front pieces should have 26 stitches, while the back piece should have 64 stitches.

Start working the first front piece (You will work in cotton for the S/M)
For the cotton, cast on one stitch on every other row at the end of the row (towards the sleeve hole). For the 3-ply, cast on one stitch on every forth row. Every stripe should have 3 cast ons.

Increase like this on one stripe of cotton and one stripe of 3-ply in total. Continue in the same way, but now cast on 2 extra stitches instead of just one at the end of the row.
Increase like this on 2 stripes of cotton and two stripes of 3-ply = 56 stitches

Continue working teh stripes without increasing. Knit 2 stripes of cotton and 1 stripe of 3-ply in total.
Both sizes will enfd with a stripe of cotton. Knit 10 rows instead of 6 on this stripe. Leave the stitches on a spare needle or a thread.

Knit the back piece in the same way, but make sure to increase in both ends for sleeves= 124 stitches.

Knit the other front piece like the first.

Use the kitchener´s stitch to join the front and back pieces over the shoulders. Assemble the jacket under the sleeves.
Leave the stitches left in the neck on the large circular needles. Pick up about 86 stitches along each side of the jacket for front bands. Knit 4 rows in stockinette. Cast off.

Use the DP needles and pick up about 40 stitches around each sleeve. Knit 4 rounds (in the round). Cast off.
