When doing this project you should imagine that you´re drawing with the sewing machine. Don´t plan the project too much, but see what comes out of it - it might be brilliant!
What you need
Fabric, different structures and qualities
Stuffing for the teddy
Tiny bells (to make the teddy make some sounds)
How we did it
You need to sew
- Two arms, or more if you want more arms
- Two legs, or more
- One body-piece
- A head
- Two ears
Cut the fabric you´ll need; four bits for the arms, four for the legs, two for the body, two or more for the head and four for the ears. You can draw the shapes on the fabric before you cut it if you want to, but it´s not really neccessary. Attatch the pieces of fabric you want to sew together with some pins.
Start by making the head, as it´s the most defining part for the character. Our teddy´s head was made out of several pieces, but if you want to keep it simple, you reall y only need two pieces. Make the pront piece bigger than the back piece, and sew some darts to create a shape. Just try, and see what happens. You can always cut off fabric later on, or attatch more.
If you want ears, make sure to put these into the head as you sew. The opening to stuff the head should be where the neck is.
Sew arms and legs and stuff them. Sew them into the body piece. Stuff the body, let the opening where you stuff be in the neck-area here too. Put some bells into the stuffing. Assemble the head and the body. It might be a good idea to stitch by hand here. Make some stitches for the eyes.
There you go. The Surprise Teddy is all done. Ours became sort of a wolf cow.
