Twist your neck warmer

This cowl has is knitted in a way that makes it look twisted, hence the name. The method also makes it airy and suitable for use indoors as well as outdoors. You´ll get it twice around your head. We've made two different versions.

Yarn, top cowl in dark purple
1 skein Abuelita Merino Worsted
2 balls Pickles Angora
Yarn
, bottom cowl in brigth purple
1 skein Abuelita Merino Worsted

Needles, both cowls
15 US circular needle, 80 cm

Gauge
8 s = 4"

Cast on 87 stitches (either in single ply worsted or double strands worsted and angora held together). Knit in the round. Repeat these two rounds until you´ve got enough yarn left to cast off with:
Round 1: Knit
Round 2: *YO, K2tog, K1* Repeat from * to * throughour the round.

Use stitchmarkers to see where the round ends.

Love it! Easy, fun, good way to use up some stash!

About how wide does it end up being when finished? Does it get folded over for wearing or is it a single layer? Thanks! :)

It goes twice around the neck

oktober 4, 2010 | Registered Commenterpickles

Yes, I was just curious what the width ended up being, meaning the shorter dimension of the cowl, rather than the wrapping length.

I like what this pattern made, however I do not understand how you are getting this twice around your neck with only 87 stitches cast on, also this pattern is the exact same one as the Twist your neck Summer-cowl with the only difference being the number of stitches cast on. If I only cast on the stitches in the summer cowl it woukd not fit around you neck. I like what ever it is that this makes, but I am a lilttle confused as to what the directions are supposed to make?

The only diffrence is that the sumemr cowl goes cannot be wrapped around twice. This one can.

I made this neck warmer twice and twice I had to rip apart as it did not fit aroun my neck twice as indicated. Did I CO or BO too tight? Also, do you use the entire ball of yarn (200 yds)?

januar 11, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterCarol

Hi Carol, so sorry to hear that you have had to rip it twice! We used the entire ball yes. It is difficult to know what is wrong, but if you feel it would have fit except from the CO BO edges are too tight, that is probably the problem yes. Try casting on on two needles, or a us 17 or 19, and binding off with it too.

Would this pattern be suitable for use with moebius cast on? It looks so fun!

How many rounds or how long to I knit this Cowl in inches? I'm not sure how many grams one of the balls you used for yours.

november 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterEloise

We used a 100 g ball.

Hello,
I'm having trouble starting this. When I go to knit in the round, the stitches get real tight and I can't even knit the whole round. Please, help. :)

desember 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRegina

We're not sure what's wrong. Are you using the recommended needle size and yarn?

desember 10, 2012 | Registered Commenterpickles

I am using the recommended needles. I'm not using the exact brand yarn but it is worsted and has the same gauge per inch. It seems if I cast on 107 stitched that I am able to knit in the round. :/

desember 10, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRegina

Ok, we had no problem, and do not know of anyone else experienceing this either:) Maybe you knit too tightly.

desember 14, 2012 | Registered Commenterpickles

Seems impossible that with a cast on of 87 stitches that the cowl will end up being the size it is in the picture...p;ease clarify.

januar 31, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterpintuk1@hotmail.com

I actually gave up. Lol. I think I do knit too tightly though. But I also couldn't keep it from getting twisted around. Like I could get the stitches all facing the same way once I started knitting. I will try again another day. :)

Are you knitting the cowl on circular needles?

februar 1, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCarly

The needles used are listed in the pattern above :)

februar 1, 2013 | Registered Commenterpickles

Yeah. I circular and the suggested needle size.
