Winter shorts and leg warmers

We used almost all of the yarn so order the total amount even if you want less colours.

Needles
40 short circular needles, US 4 and 5.
DPN US 4.

You will insert elastic bands so size up rather than down if unsure.

Pattern
Cast on 88 (96) 104 (116) s with two strands of CC on US 4 circular needles. Place marker at the beginning of the round, and after 44 (48) 52 (58) s to mark the back and front. Knit stockinette in the round for 1.2”. On the next round *K1, YO, K2tog* throughout the round. Switch to MC shorts and US 5 needles, and continue in stockinette for another 1.2”. Make the shorts a bit taller in the back by doing a few turns:

Knit 7 s past the marker in the middle back. Turn. Knit 14 s back. Turn. Knit 21 s forward. Turn. Knit 28 s back. Turn. Knit 35 s forward. Turn. Knit 42 s back. Turn.

ONLY size 4-5 and 6-7 years: Turn another time each way with 7 s more before each turn each time. Continue forward.

Continue until the piece measures 16 (17) 18 (19) cm from the row of YO´s. (measured in the front) On the next round: knit until 1 s is left before the marker in the back. Make 1 s. K 2 s. Make 1 s. Repeat for the marker in front. (= 4 new s). On the next round bind off 2 s before and 2 s after each marker. (= 80 (88) 96 (108) m on the needle) Knit each leg separately. Continue in stockinette until the leg measures 5 (6) 7 (9) cm. Purl 1 round. Switch to US 4 needles and K another 3 cm. Fold at the purl row and sew in. Insert elastic bands. Fold at the row of YO´s and sew. Insert elastic band.

LEG WARMERS
Cast on 28 (32) 36 (40) s with two strands of MC leg warmers on US 4 DPN´s and knit ribbing in the round, K2, P2 until the leg warmers measures 36 (39) 43 (46) cm. We did 12 rounds of MC leg warmers and 3 rounds of each of the CC´s. Knit the first round after each colour change for a neater result.
