Zig-zag-spread

Nils´new bed is a hit. He´s so proud! I was somehow surprised that the bed spread was just as popular. He demands to sleep with it every night. The Zig-zag-spread is super light, very soft and the colours are cheerful - so no wonder the likes it, right? This projects is nice to have lying around to knit a few rows every night. The pattern is repetative, and if you´ve knitted before, you can easily watch TV or enjoy the ocean view  while knitting it.

The bed is 27,5x47". The bed spread is extremely stretchy, and you can easily stretch it out to fit this bed. Because of the stretchieness as well as the softness of the yarn, this would also make a perfect baby blanket. Just knit it a bit shorter;) If you want it wider or narrower you can add or substract 16 stitches, or a number that can be divided by 16.

Yarn
6 balls Abuelita 3-ply merino
(You need a bit more than 200 g for the blanket, but if you want it as colourful as ours, you´ll need 6 skeins)
We´ve put together a limited number of yarn-kits for this project.

Needles
Long circular needles US 10

Gauge
4" = about 23 stitches

Cast on 161 stitches loosely on US 10 needles.

Row 1:
Slip 1* YO, K 6, slip the next two stitches as if you were to KNIT them (insert the needle into the second stitch on the left needle, and pick up the two front stitches on to the right needle), K1, lift the two slipped stitches over the last knitted stitch, K 6, YO, K1* Repeat from * to * throughout the row.

Row 2:
Slip 1. K 7. * P1; K 15* Repeat from * to * until 9 stitches remain. P1, K8.

Repeat these two rows. Change colour whenever you want to. Cast off when the work is about 47", or as long as you want it.

I have a question... I'd like to buy the yarn to make this beautiful blanket. But before, I want to know in what currency is the price of it on your shop. Thanks

juni 3, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterNuria

Hi Nuria, you can choose between USD or Norwegian krone (NOK)

Such a cute blanket! Since around 600 g of yarn is included in the kit, and only 200 g are needed for the blanket, with the kit would it be possible to make the blanket twice as large?

juni 6, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSara

Absolutely Sara, just make sure you cast on a multiple of 16 stitches :)

Such a lovely blanket! I am new to knitting, but I want to try my hand at this pattern. I am just wondering, the pattern says 10mm needles and size US 10 needles. Is it the later?

:)

It is US 10, thanks Christina!

I have been knitting for years and I cannot figure out row #1. I think there is something wrong with it. I even took it to A. C. Moore and they said it was writen wrong. Yhank you

There is nothing wrong with this pattern;) We´ve got loads of customers who have been knitting it. Perhaps you would care to elaborate on what´s not working? It´s hard to help you if not. We are not familiar with a.c.moore.

Love this pattern. Am knitting it in dk yarn and US size 6 needles. Pattern is correct, very easy to follow. However, for those used to USA patterns, row 1 could be written: Sl 1, *YO, K6, Sl 2 as if to knit individally {one at a time}, K1, p2sso {pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch}, K6, YO, K1 repeat from *
I think people having problems with the pattern are not used to passing 2 slipped stitches over. I teach knitting and this is often confusing for my students.

This pattern is turning out beautiful, except for the selvege. I started off slipping the first stitch knitwise since it wasn't otherwise specified and it looks ok on one side but not on the other. I've started slipping the first stitch on the WS row purlwise but they still aren't identical. Is there a fix on this other than adding a garter edging? I'm going to keep on this one and crochet a border to hide it, but this is so easy and attractive I plan on knitting another :)

We are slipping the stitches purlwise, and happy with the result. You can also add a garter edge if you like ;)

I love this blanket but I wonder if there is any way to knit it without the holes that the YO creates. I'd love to have a solid blanket with the zig zags. Any suggestions?

september 28, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteramy

Has anyone made this big enough for a full size or queen sized bed? If so, how many stitches did you use?

desember 13, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMary

I am working this pattern and have two questions.

1. Total # of cast on stitches is a multiple of 16, plus 1 - right?

2. I'm not sure I'm doing row 2 right... that purl stitch, is it supposed to land on the stitch that comes out of the two passed-over stitches? In mine, the purl stitch is landing on the stitch AFTER the slip-slip-knit-pass-over stitch, and I'm worried that I'm a little "late".

desember 22, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLydia

Yes 16 + 1.
You end row 1 with K6, YO, K1= 8 stitches, meaning that slip 1, k7 = 8 sticthes before purling is correct;)

desember 23, 2011 | Registered Commenterpickles

hi.
what does K and YO mean?

februar 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commentersosae
