Cast on 136 s on US 4 needles and work garter in the round for about 1”. Change to US 7 needles and work the following rounds:

Round 1: Knit, while at the same time increase 40 s evenly around the round. (= 176 s on the needles) Place marker at the beginning of the round and after 88 s to mark the sides.
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: *Knit the 4th s on the left needle, but leave it on the left needle. Then knit s number 1, 2 and 3 as usual and let the 4th s go after them.* (It´s very important to “give” enough yarn when knitting that 4th s, we don´t want any tension in the garment. You don´t want to knit too loose either, that will make holes in the fabric. We strongly recommend making a swatch!) Repeat between * and * throughout the round.

Then repeat the following 10 rounds until your piece measures 13.5 “

Round 1-4: Knit
Round 5:  K 2 s. * Knit the 4th s on the left needle, but leave it on the left needle. Then knit s number 1, 2 and 3 as usual and let the 4th s go after them.* Repeat between * and * throughout the round + the 2 first s you knitted at the beginning of the round.
Round 6-9: Knit
Round 10: * Knit the 4th s on the left needle, but leave it on the left needle. Then knit s number 1, 2 and 3 as usual and let the 4th s go after them.* Repeat between * and * throughout the round.

The last round should be a round 5 or 10.

Knit one round while decreasing 40 s evenly around. We did k2tog for decreases.
Change back to US 4 needles. On the next round knit until 5 s is left before the first marker, bind off 10 s.  Repeat for the other side. Continue around. When you reach the point of the first bind off, make 38 new stitches over the arm (We did backward loops). Continue around and repeat for the other side. Knit 29 s. You are now at the middle back. Turn and knit 1 row back. Slip the first stitch on every row from now on out for a nice edge. The rest of the top is knitted in garter back and forth.

Decreases starts on next row from the right side:
Knit while decreasing 20 s evenly around. (Use K2tog)
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 18 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 18 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 16 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 14 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 12 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 10 s evenly.
Knit 3 rows.

Knit while decreasing 8 s evenly. Bind off.

Assembling
Don´t cut the working yarn, but leave a tail and crochet a small loop for buttoning at the back of the neck opening on one side. Sew a button on the other side and weave in all ends.

Cute summer top

A light summer top which can also be used as a vest. This pattern fits a 9 - 12 months old baby. Did we mention it is all knit stitches?

Materials: 2 balls of Svale, circular needles US size 2½ and 4.

Pattern:

Cast on 88 stitches on US 2½ circular needles. Knit garter stitch for 1 inch. Switch to US 4 needles and start knitting in the round.

Stitch pattern:

Round 1 - 4: Knit 4 rounds of stockinette. Place marker at the beginning of the round and after 44 stitches.
Round 5: *Knit the 4th stitch on the needle and leave the stitch on. Knit the 3 stitches before that stitch and slide the 4th stitch off last.* See pictures below. Repeat out round.

Knit 4th stitch.

Knit the 3 stitches before. 4th stitch is still on the needle.

And off like this.

Round 6- 9: Knit 4 rounds of stockinette.

Pinne 10: Knit 2. Then repeat round 5 for the rest of the round + the 2 first stitches on next round.

Repeat from round 1. Continue until top measures 7 inches. The last round should be a pattern round.

Shoulders:

Knit one round.

Switch back to US 2½ needles. On the next round knit 41 stitches,cast off 6 stitches (3 before and 3 after the side marker) Repeat for the other side. Continue the round. When you get to the first side cast on 22 new stitches over the arm. Repeat for the other side. Knit 19 stitches. You are now at in the middle of the back piece. Turn and knit (garter) Slip the first stitch of every row from now on out.

Knit 3 stitches. K2tog. *K 6 , K2tog* until 3 stitches is left. Knit the last 3 stitches.You now have 105 stitches left on the needles.

Knit 3 rows
Knit 3 stitches. K2tog. *K 6 , K2tog* until 4 stitches is left. Knit the last 4 stitches.

Knit 3 rows
Knit 2 stitches. K2tog. *K 5 , K2tog* until 2 stitches is left. Knit the last 2 stitches.

Knit 3 rows
Knit 3 stitches. K2tog. *K 5 , K2tog* until 4 stitches is left. Knit the last 4 stitches.

Knit 3 rows
Knit 3 stitches. K2tog. *K 4 , K2tog* until 2 stitches is left. Knit the last 2 stitches.

Knit 3 rows
Knit 2 stitches. K2tog. *K 8, K2tog* until 2 stitches is left. Knit the last 2 stitches.

Cast off. Leave a tail long enough to crochet a button loop.

Assembeling:

Sew the little side seam and weave in all ends. Crochet a button loop, and sew a button on the other side.
