Pickles Window Takeover: Birger Berge

In Markveien, right in the heart of Oslo, we give knitwear designers the opportunity to exhibit their creations in our shop window. This is a unique chance for designers to showcase their work to a wide audience, while celebrating knitwear design as an art form.

Birger is known for his meticulous craftsmanship and strong roots in traditional Norwegian knitting patterns, and the rug he has designed is no exception. With a background as a folklorist and many years of experience in interpreting and communicating Norwegian cultural heritage, he has a unique ability to combine the historical with the modern. Through books, knitting patterns and social media, he shares his passion for textile traditions and the joy of creating something with his hands.

The rust red and natural white blanket is knitted in classic two-tone knit with a rich and detailed star pattern, rooted in traditional Norwegian knitting. The result is a blanket that warms both body and soul.

The rug is knitted in Pickles Pure Wool, a 100% wool carding yarn that provides fantastic mottled colors, great definition and a real wool feel, perfect for projects that will last for generations.

Birger’s takeover is a tribute to the slow, thorough and thoughtful. Stop by the Pickles store in Oslo and see the rug in the window.

Yarn kits can be found here. The pattern is exclusive to Pickles and is only included as part of the yarn package.

Want to knit more from Birger? You can find more of his patterns in the books Moderne tradisjonsstrikk, Nordisk mønsterstrikk and Norsk strikkedesign – knit your favorite, which are available in bookstores.

The rug is now on display in the window at Pickles in Grünerløkka, stop by and get inspired!

Sincerely, Pickles and Birger Berge
